My Bee Photo

This is an old photo I took on my Pentax K20D before I sold it and everyone in my family think's it's an awesome photo. I think I did pretty well condidering this was taken on a budget Tamron 70-300mm lens. I saw this bee out on the Buhdleia in the front garden and quickly saw a photo oppertunity and got out my camera and tripod and took a series of photos out of which I later picked out this one to be the best as the bee moved around a lot.

It was been my desktop background for the last few months and has made an impact with anyone I've shown it to (24"screen helps!)

As for me I've been to Weymouth a couple of weeks ago and took a lot or photos there which I hope to post soon.

I sold my old 70-300mm IS lens (actually turned a £3 profit on it!!) and bought the new 55-250mm one instead which is nice as it's a LOT lighter, quieter and the reduction in range doesn't bother me too much. Also got a Sigma 105mm prime macro lens which I've got some awesome shots of my young nanny charges with and their parents are very impressed with and want copies. I might be able to post those on here (pending Mum & Dad's persmission)

More to come! Please leave comments!

Super Spider Plants

When I'm not taking photos of people and children I love a bit of nature photography.

I have long had a collection of Spider Plants on my window sill ever since I've herad they are a good natural air filter. I started with one and now look at them, and that's not all of them.

The other good thing about them is that are very resistant to going wihout water for a very long time. So every now and then, when someone catcches onto the idea that I like plants get one one for Birthday/Christmas/other then it doesn't do very well under the neglect that my Spider plants endure and I think this photo catches that idea very well !!

New Camera

Hello All, this is my new blog which I'm dedicating to my photography.

Two weeks ago I bought a brand new Canon EOS 500D from my local Jessops. It's an awesome camera with 15Mp and can do 720p video. I have just got a lens in the post which I bought on eBay. It the 75-300 Canon IS model.

Unfortunately I found this lens is the older model which has a VERY noisey IS (Image Stabiliser) mechanism and focusing is really noisey too. This wouldn't be a problem with photos but forget videos with sound!!

However I've named this blog SRP Photography since I want to start a little photography business with that name (SRP is my initials - Stephen Robert Phillips). If things go well, I'll invest in more equipment

I love doing portrait photography and working with families and children, I'm already working as a nanny and I think that style of photography would suit me very well.

However, I need to build up my portfolio and see how it all goes.

Watch this space!!
